Dummy is an unlikely name for a mastermind, but don’t be fooled by the name. This Battle, Club and renowned Concert DJ who adds Musical Director and Producer to his resume hails from Brooklyn, New York. Growing up, the DJ influence was always around, watching and listening to both his father and brother DJ. This early exposure sparked his love of music, and by the tender age of 7 he had his hands on the turntables.
By the early 90s, DJ Dummy’s stellar performances jump-started his career, and began to establish his name within the industry. People couldn’t help but to take notice, when the then 14-year old DJing genius, held his own on the stage of the Supermen DJ Battle (1991). During his DJ battling days, this original member of the infamous Tape Kingz, went on to win the New York Regional DMC Battle (’98) and also came 2nd and 3rd at the American DMC Battle (98) and the Zulu Nation Battle (’96), respectively.
DJ Dummy is very much an enigma to most people, but his success within the battle circuit made an immense impression within the hip-hop community and proved he was a talent to be reckoned with. Because of his battle roots, Dummy not only has an uncanny ability to excite a crowd of any size, but has an innate understanding of the actual skill of DJing. That expertise, which only a few DJs possess, has allowed him to move the art of djing to an all encompassing performance; pulling names like Rihanna and J.Cole to bill him as an act on their tours.
His talents have attracted many of hip-hop’s premier artists, throughout the years; he has worked closely on creating stage shows and/or DJing concerts all over the world, for the likes of J Cole, Queen Latifah, Common, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Music Soulchild, Mos Def, De La Soul, A+, DMX, Onyx, Smoothe The Hustler, going all the way back to Group Home.
DJ Dummy’s almost 20 year career has seen him electrify numerous clubs, tour internationally and entertained clients such as Prince, LeBron James and Venus Williams. It has seen him DJ in the smallest clubs in Brooklyn, to performing at the White House for President Obama. He has formed unbreakable professional relationships with many iconic artists in the industry and he’s been a part of historic moments in Hip-Hop. And this is only the beginning of DJ Dummy’s legacy, so it’s safe to say, you can certainly learn a lot from a dummy.
