The Around the Sound race is an inshore sheltered race held in Cockburn Sound in the vicinity of Garden and Carnac Islands. The race is designed to suit entry level cruiser racers under safety Category 4 (Category 3 for Double Handed) where river based club racers have the opportunity to experience some ocean racing on a course designed to test their sailing proficiency on all wind angles. The race also presents the opportunity for Blue Water racers to train new crew members in preparation for their offshore race campaigns. This race often attracts additional entrants who are not necessarily competing for an entire series of races, but wish to get their boats out to sea occassionally. The boost in casual entrant numbers adds to the ambience of the day race.
In 2014-15 season, the “Around the Sound”, sponsored by OH&S Consulting, will be conducted on Sunday 15th February, 2015 starting off Fremantle commencing with Division One at 0925hrs.
Trophies will be presented for both IRC and YAH. Results for this race will count towards the Beneteau Offshore Series.
Entry Fee is $50 with entry forms and payment required to reach SoPYC On Water Group Office by 1700 hrs on Monday 9th February.
